How can we deal with social isolation and loneliness as mothers in a world where everyone “lives online”?
Jamie Erickson from The Unlikely Homeschool joins me on the podcast to talk about the importance of moms supporting one another to combat feelings of being isolated.
As a homeschooling mom of 5, Jamie writes with a heart to exhort mothers to live out the Gospel in their homes and invite others into their spaces. She is the author of both Homeschool Bravely and Holy Hygge: Creating a Place For People to Gather and the Gospel to Grow.
During this episode, Jamie discusses how social media as well our culture’s high priority on independence has put moms at a disadvantage, and shares practical insight for coping with feeling isolated and lonely.
She also shares ways in which mothers can encourage one another, beyond just “pat” advice and well-meaning platitudes.
I think in life you need three different levels of relationships with other women. I need to be reaching ahead to seasoned, veteran mothers who have that experience to offer me before I can even get there. And I need to be reaching across to the women who are in the exact same season that I can link arms with, and say ‘Oh, you too?’ But I also need to be reaching behind to some women who are not as far along on this journey. And if we’re doing that, we make this generational line of life even for those who maybe didn’t have that growing up. That’s one of the lovely things about the body of Christ, is that we can build these familial connections from one woman reaching ahead to the next who’s reaching ahead to the next… and it just continues on this way.
