Even though my kids are 8 and 11 now, they still enjoy a good picture book. There's something special about piling together on the couch with a great story. And the Gospel is the best story of all. It is the most important thing we can share with our children. But while we all know it's fundamental to our Christian faith, sometimes we still have difficulty explaining it clearly and concisely to our kiddos.  These 10 picture books will help you teach Scripture's overarching message about God's glorious plan to redeem His rebellious people, ... 3 Great Secrets To Raising Faithful and Godly Kids

3 Great Secrets To Raising Faithful and Godly Kids

I had one of those days recently where I was constantly frustrated by my children's behavior. You know, where you expect your kids not to act like kids? I couldn't figure out why, at the ages of 10 and 7, they hadn't overcome certain character flaws that I- a woman in her forties- still has difficulty with. Then, I slipped into this line of thinking: "Hey, I homeschool. Where are these stinkin' attitudes coming from??" In this day and age, it's important and necessary to protect our children from worldly influences so their faith has the best chance of taking root. According to the Barna Group, the overwhelming majority of adults have their moral and spiritual foundations already in place by age nine.  While we would be naive to think ... Read More...

3 Truths About Showing Your Kids Grace

3 Truths About Showing Your Kids Grace

During our morning devotion the other day, I became mad at my son. He had absentmindedly grabbed my cup of coffee, inches away from his reach. I told him twice to put it back... and then he spilled it. In frustration over the interruption and the mess, I scolded him. Hadn't we just gone over self-control the previous week? It can be frustrating and discouraging when our children keep exhibiting the same behaviors over and over again that we try and correct. The cycle goes something like this: my child disobeys again after I’ve already told him multiple times to do the right thing. I get mad. He retreats. I get more frustrated because of his frustration. And lather, rinse, repeat. Back to the spilled coffee incident earlier- I ... Read More...

5 Great Reasons To Teach Your Kids Apologetics

5 Great Reasons To Teach Your Kids Apologetics

Several months ago, my kids and I watched a debate between an atheist and a theist. My seven-year-old lost interest about twenty minutes in and wandered off to go play, but my ten-year-old sat there, riveted, for the entire two hour program. The Christian speaker made a very compelling argument for the existence of God, and while the Atheist made some valid points, his speech was full of fallacious and emotionally charged arguments, rather than reason and logic. My son and I concluded that the Theist, therefore, ultimately "won" the debate. But even if the Atheist had presented a stronger case, I wouldn't have been worried. Why? Because we already spend a fair amount of time examining the claims of skeptics. My children are ... Read More...

4 Ways To Equip Your Kids With a Biblical Worldview

4 Ways To Equip Your Kids With a Biblical Worldview

It takes intentionality and purpose these days to create Christ-centered homes that teach and train our children well. In this fallen world, the default mode is most definitely NOT biblical. A huge part of that training is equipping them with a biblical worldview. But what exactly is biblical worldview? Why is it important to teach it to our children? And how do we go about doing that? A worldview is simply our perspective, or assumption, on how the world works. Everyone has one because it's the way we see and experience the world through the lenses of our beliefs. Most of us aren’t even aware that we operate from a particular worldview, since it was formed uncritically and informally, but it influences everything- values, ... Read More...
