Called To Mothering is a place where women can find encouragement and equipping in their God-given calling as mothers, along with Christian parenting and homeschooling help. I’m Marisa, a homeschool mama of two kids, Colton (12) and Rory (9), wife to Gregg since 2003, and follower of Jesus. A Jersey girl (raised and grown in the Garden State), I’ve been transplanted with my family down south to Oklahoma because of my husband’s job.
My book, Bucking The System: Reclaiming Our Children’s Minds For Christ was released in January 2016 on Amazon in both Kindle and Softcover formats. When I’m not writing my next blog post, I’m teaching the littles, moving laundry around, trying to throw together a nutritious meal, and praying for sanity as I juggle each of these responsibilities.
I did not always want to homeschool my children. In fact, it was never even on my radar until halfway through my son’s second year of Pre-K. (You can read all about that here). I admired homeschoolers and drooled over their beautiful Pinterest worthy crafts and blog posts, but I never considered that I might “have what it takes” to actually be able to do the same.
I believed extreme patience and being born with an artsy fartsy gene were requirements for educating my own children. Turns out I was wrong! Being their mother who knows them better than anyone else and wants the best for them was and is the only prerequisite.
Home education is a big part of fulfilling my calling as a mama. Anyone can be a mother, but to embrace what it means to be called to mothering is another matter. It means saying yes to God’s design for motherhood, as outlined in His Word, even when it’s hard and goes against the grain of today’s culture.
I am by no means a perfect mom, which should be obvious between the lines of my posts. I’m just one who has been given a passion and burden to encourage women to create Christ-centered homes through parenting and education, in a world that is becoming increasingly hostile to biblical values.
Called to Mothering is about trying to sort out what I’ve discovered about God through this journey of motherhood and an exhortation to other moms to follow me along the way. I sincerely hope it will give you encouragement, practical advice, and even some laughs!
