I am excited to announce that my new book, Bucking The System: Reclaiming Our Children’s Minds For Christ, was released last week! It has already sold several copies. In many ways, I feel like I have just given birth. This is the fruit of a lot of labor, and I am grateful to finally share it with you, my loyal blog readers!

The book is a compilation of my experience as a social worker in schools, along with years of research, reading hundreds of books and articles on public education and watching dozens of documentaries. I also draw from personal interviews with teachers and parents of children in public schools. I did not only want to paint an assessment of the public education system from these sources, but also present what Scripture has to say on the topic, and encourage moms and dads that they are equipped to teach their children at home. Many parents I’ve talked to were very concerned either about the quality of the education their kids were receiving, or about the subject matter they were learning.
Though they come from various different states, they all believed their concerns were isolated incidents, limited only to their particular state or district. Mostly they were discouraged and overwhelmed, expressing a desire to home educate but thinking they lacked the resources and ability to do so. My hope is that what I have written, though shocking and angering at times, will draw a bigger picture for them to fit their individual experiences into and give them the confidence to pursue homeschooling.
I’d love to hear what you think about it! I realize this is a hot-button issue these days. I welcome mature discussion about the content, but any personal character attacks will be deleted. God laid this on my heart many years ago, and called me way out beyond the shore into the waves to write it. Also… over the next few weeks I will be sharing a series of posts covering some themes that were highlighted in my book!
