Indescribable Book Review & Giveaway

November 30, 2017

Disclaimer: I was provided Indescribable: 100 Devotions About God & Science for reviewing and hosting a giveaway. All opinions, however, are my own and have not been influenced by the author/publisher in any way.

One of my children’s favorite subjects in our homeschool is science. There are so many fascinating topics to dive into. During the first part of this year we are learning all about biology, studying different types of creatures from the animal kingdom first before moving onto the plant kingdom.

My son especially loved learning about the sea cucumber, which can spit out its own organs at a predator to protect itself and then, amazingly, those organs eventually grow back. Gotta love boys!

No matter what we happen to be studying, whether it’s animals or space, I always try to highlight the design of that creation in a way that points my kids to the Creator. Unfortunately, there aren’t many Christian based science books for kids on the market. I am so thrilled that Indescribable: 100 Devotions About God & Science actually pairs scientific fact with a children’s devotional.

A review and giveaway of the children's devotional, Indescribable: 100 Devotions About God & Science. Enter for a chance to win your copy!

Indescribable explores the majesty of creation while giving God praise and glory for creating all of it. The book is based on pastor and bestselling author Louie Giglio’s popular messages “Indescribable” and “How Great Is Our God” for adults.

One hundred devotions cover topics from all areas of science including creation, animals, dinosaurs, space, molecules, anatomy, geology and fossils, the weather and yes, it even confronts evolutionary theory! Each topic includes fascinating scientific facts, a life application, hands-on activities, and a closing prayer.

These bite size devotions are perfect for elementary aged children, and while they are quite short (2 pages), each one contains a lot of biblical truth. The pages are beautifully illustrated and keep my children’s attention while I read.

I really appreciate that the author invites kids to think about the questions they encounter in day-to-day life, while being led from scientific fact right into devotion and worship. The devotions are written in a simple, straightforward way that connects with and engages young kids, because they relate to what children face on a regular basis.

Even though it’s a quick morning read, this book has sparked some great discussions with my kids about the world around them. I love that they’re not only learning about science, but more importantly, that science and faith aren’t mutually exclusive!

The intricateness of the natural world points to a Creator, just as the Bible says, and this devotional unapologetically points to that truth. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” (Psalm 19:1)
