How To Practice Self-Care as a Busy Mom

May 15, 2020

As moms, we tend to put our needs last. We spend so much of our time being busy, running errands, and doing for others that we forget to take care of ourselves too.

Self-care seems to have been a dirty word for moms for a long time, like somehow we have to martyr ourselves in order to be a good mother.

But it doesn’t have to be synonymous with self-indulgence.

When we start taking better care of ourselves, we ultimately become better wives and mothers! Our mood improves, our productivity increases and we feel more relaxed.

Self-care principles for busy Christian moms in the areas of physical, emotional, financial and spiritual health! #selfcareformoms #selfcaretips #selfcarehabits

As the old adage goes, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Being moms, we have a habit of spilling over every drop and then trying to give more when we are depleted. It’s important to have a good self-care program in place, not just one that will benefit you physically and emotionally, but also spiritually.

Life More Abundantly is a 10-week course that focuses on a Christ-centered approach to self-care. Kimberley Milousis teaches how to pour back into your cup so that you can not only pour out, but have the abundant life Jesus meant for you to have.

Her course teaches you how to have abundance and break limiting beliefs in ten key areas: food, fitness, pharmacology, physical appearance, focus & mindset, family & relationships, finances, philanthropy, faith and future.

Kimberley gives practical tips in an easy, relatable and balanced way, drawing from Scripture. Her unique view of self-care is based upon the concept of finding balance, because she has learned that God’s truth is multi-faceted, colorful and alive.

You not only learn how to practice good habits in the areas of physical, emotional, financial and spiritual health; you gain an excitement for the unique ways you can fulfill God’s purposes! You can’t help but catch her infectious spunk as you listen to each of the 10 video lessons.

Lesson topics include:

  • Creating a Power Fuel Plan
  • Toxins that disrupt your body’s harmony
  • Effects of rest
  • Natural remedies
  • Overcoming bodycare challenges
  • Neuroplasticity and emotions
  • The freedom in forgiveness
  • Budgeting basics
  • Growing your faith through prayer, meditation & worship

In each lesson, basic principles are broken down so they’re easy to understand and apply. Each one also helps you develop daily practices that are simple and straightforward so you can map out a plan for success in 10 specific areas.

For example, in the area of food, Kimberley shares how what we put into our body affects every single cell. She says that there is a connection between what you eat and the conditions you develop.

The workbook that accompanies the Life More Abundantly course is your opportunity to go deeper with the ideas that are presented. Beautifully illustrated and clearly laid out, it contains “connecting dots” with fill-in-the-blanks so that you can make connections between the concepts you are learning, insightful reflection questions, and helpful tips for keeping track of your progress.

The guides in the introduction also set you up to begin the course with a sense of clarity and focus!

Kimberley understands the unique challenges moms are faced with to take care of themselves. She doesn’t promise quick solutions, but rather doable lifestyle changes that you will implement over your entire life.

I especially appreciate her tools to transform the wrong beliefs we have so that we can grow in abundance, make self-care a priority and ultimately, better serve our families!
